Timers in j2me MIDP

I am writing j2me application[game],I need timer i tried to build it depending
on system time but i failed .
Can you help me in it.

static long currentTimeMillis()
Returns the current time in milliseconds.

But while using this you have handle it properly in call interruption or other
interruptions (when application goes offscreen).
If possible try to use timer varible instead.
