VLAN Hopping

Virtual Local Area Network Hopping:

One of the known attacks in the VLAN network what is called VLAN Hopping .VLAN Hopping depends on sending packets to non accessible ports . VLAN hopping attack is based on the Dynamic Trunking Protocol and, in some cases, the trunking encapsulation protocol (802.1q or ISL) The Dynamic Trunking Protocol is used for negotiating trunking on a link between two switches or devices and the type of trunking encapsulation to be used.

There are two kind of VLAN hopping :

  1. Switch Spoofing
  2. Double Tagging
